I guess you could say it's our one minute, forty-five seconds of fame. King 5 News in Seattle came by the house this morning to do a quick story about the trip, this web site and the gadgetry we're using to document our travels.  The story will run at noon today in Seattle on King 5 News (and possibly at 5).  Our friend and star King 5 reporter Ray Lane came to do the story, which is happening at the last possible moment for us.

Sachi did an awesome job.  She says she fears speaking in public, but man she's eloquent.

I got to talk about gadgetry and web site- something I never tire of discussing.

We both can't wait to see what actually makes it into the story.  We're hoping some shots of Amos make it. :)

This is the 2nd time Lee is on the news.... first was for commenting on the protesters outside Seattle Executive Ron Simms' house.  With the Chris Pirillo show last night and this morning with the local TV news, things are definitely escalating.... tomorrow, THE WORLD!!!

Leaving your child for a year so you can take a trip around the world is incredibly selfish.

Anonyous person, I'm assuming that you're referring to our dog as the "child" we are leaving. Leaving him is certainly the most difficult part of the trip from an emotional perspective. As our friends can attest, he will be well cared-for by Sachi's brother in the house where he has lived with us for years. I won't bore you with the spoiled-dog nature of his life. Also, for future reference, if you're going to call us names like "incredibly selfish" please have the courtesy and courage to provide your name.

Lee, watching you with interest and just a little envy from Sydney Australia.  Don't waste your valuable time replying to people who haven't bothered to read what you guys are all about; just zap 'em.  I'm no dog lover but it's been obvious from the start you two are gutted at the thought of leaving your old buddy.

Have a ball you two.

It's nice to have readers like you, who have a more open mind.

Hey Guys, I really don't know how I ran across yoru site, but i did. I think you were in my referred logs. DO you have a summary page explaining what you're doing, and what your tentative itinerary is? And I'm especially interested in the gadgetry you'll be travelling with. I'm going to ahve my own troubles with 5 kilos of camera and glass, and I'm wondering how you're going to handle it yourswelves. Ciao for now - glad you enjoyed Calgary and the mountains. .te.d

Yeh, I foun dit. t just took some seaching for...ABOUT. DoH! Still curious about how you're handling all your gadgetry and stuff while you're out and about. It's hard to travel with 10K of cameras and computers and stuff. Just curious what you're doing... ciao

I saw your story today on the news and I must send my congratulations and best wishes. Don't worry about the child comment...it sounds like he'll be grandly cared for while you are gone. My own kids are planning a world tour beginning some time in the next three years and their Sheltie will be with me and my dog. We know she'll be fine because we've prepared. I'm going to send my daughter and son-in-law your contact information and maybe your story will encourage them to keep their dream alive, even amid "saner voices" who question their wisdom. So much of what I know is what I have learned from travel and the people that have come into my life because I have gone out to meet them. Have a blast!!!

Bobbi,

Thanks so much for your kind words.  We have all the confidence in the world that we're doing the right thing.  We hope that, like you, our travels will introduce us to an new world of people and places that only could have come from taking the big step away from home. Thanks for the comment!

I just saw your story on King 5 and had to check it out! It will be fun to follow your travels, and live through your eyes while here in lovely Seattle!

nice to be able to travel. but still think leaving your dog is not right. but that is me. people do that all the time. at least yours is with family. wonder if you would take your own child or leave it with grandparents. have a good trip

Hey you two, have you felt the desire to show your KING5 segment to everyone you meet? Well guess what.... now you can. I'm setting up the slingbox tonight, so you'll soon be able to login from your laptop and access the Tivo box and replay the news segment to anyone around the world. Pretty cool, huh! By the way, my boss (who I told about your trip) saw the segment on last Saturday's morning news and she thought to herself, "no, that's too weird of a coincidence for someone else to be going on a round-the-world trip..." then when she saw Sachi, she said... "ooh ooh, that kinda looks like Mark" and she put the two and two together.... pretty smart my boss.
