As were getting a quick safety training session for the whitewater rafting, Puala asked if I had been whitewater rafting before.  Unlike Sachi, I had not.  Paula, one of our guides whispered to me with a devious look in her eye "don't worry we'll pop your cherry gently."  I suppose it was gently considering the part of the Kaitunu  that we did was a class 5 rapid and at 21 feet, has the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the world. Gently indeed.

This is river surfing..

We went with Raftabout, in Rotorua, which is one a few companies that do the Kaituna.  The cost was $75 NZ per person, plus pictures. We enjoyed the folks and certainly the trip with Raftabout.

That looks awesome!  Lee you had perfect form at that pre-falls, crouch-at-the-bottom-of-the-boat moment.

Shouldn't you guys ease into having fun on your trip? It's only been a week or two and already you guys are seemingly having too much fun. I hope the entire trip is gonna be like this, rafting, kayaking, fishing, etc, since it's definitely fun to read about. When are you guys doing that ride where you sit in a airplane-type thingy attached to wires and go back and forth across the valley? I know it's in NZ somewhere, but it's all foreign to me.

Drenchingly awesome photos! (Should they be used to promote immersion language education?!)

Well-designed and expertly engineered website!

Blog on! Snap away!

When you come to China, you should visit the tulou in Fujian and north-eastern Guangdong. They are cylindrical clan residences made of mainly adobe by the Hakka (Kejia) people. Check out a bit on this at a webpage I made http://twohandsapproach.org/steve_other/hakka/hakkahohokam.htm

Hakka clan residence, Fujian or Guangdong, China

Will recommend your blog to my students...

BTW - what blog software or blog hosting site are you using?

BTW2 - I can't load http://www.theworldisnotflat.com/filter/tips ... Is it a big file? I get the right column, and the top part of the page, but nothing after this:

  • Images can be added to this post

Anyway, it could be a bandwidth problem at this end...

ok style means green?

Glad to see that you got some world famous rafting in! Looks like you and 2 guides in the boat, what a treat! Was the water warm? I've always wondered what it would be like to raft a river where hypothermia wasn't a concern. Very cool...I hear Australia has some awesome rivers, too. Keep the adventures coming!
