Sorry to rush into this, but Venice is fairly self-explanatory...not off the beaten track by any means, but one of my favorite places.  This was my third visit and Sachi's first, so I tried to play guide as best I could.  here are the photos...

After seeing your pictures there is no doubt that I have got to get to Europe!  I have always wanted to see Venice and now I must get to Milan as well!  Gorgeous pictures

Venice beautiful.. milan not so much

Venice is definetly one of the most beautiful cities in the world. However, to tell you the truth,  Milan is a dump! If you want to go see a metropolis with very little italian culture.. it is your best bet. Even if your a shopoholic, the area at the bottom of the spanish steps in Rome is far superior than Milan..
