Impressions of Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam
Even at a first glance,

Notice the woman riding side-saddle below- very common.

While there are more motorcycles, there seem to be fewer people per motorcycle than we saw in

We’ve learned that if you wait for a chance to cross the street in
Other than the motorcycles,

Sporting the Blake Carrington Look
This is for those die-hard Dynasty fans hoping for the second-coming of football-style shoulder pads for women, characters killed off by falling down a flight of stairs, and permed "big hair" (the bigger the hair, the more evil the character!). Recently, Lee has been sporting the Blake Carrington look with the swept feathered 'do.
He almost has enough grey to perfect it!
However, his locks keep him too warm in this humidity, so he's having a haircut as I write. What was that country song about getting a haircut outside of your hometown? Apparently there's a guy where Lee's headed specializing in foreigner hair - we'll see how it turns out from Saigon.
Looking Forward to Ha Long Bay, Viet Nam
I think Ha Long Bay, Vietnam and the vicinity is the place that I saw pictures of when I was a kid and wanted to go so badly. We will go there in 2006.
Seth and Julie were just there and described it nicely:
We have just come back from two beautiful days in Ha Long bay (gulf of Tonkin). Those that have been there know just how stunning it is, for those that haven’t, picture a flat sea green expanse of water studded with 3,000 limestone karsts jutting straight up from the water forming tiny, uninhabited “mountain-islands.” As the massive blood orange sun set behind the jagged islands the boat staff taught Seth to catch squid off the side of the boat with a handheld net (which was then steamed up for dinner).
Thailand with Jules and Emily
Jules and Emily are from Seattle and departed in early 2005 on a trip similar to ours. They don't blog often, but I'm always interested to see what they have to say. Guys, if you read this- we want more blogging! :)
Their last post was about their experiences in Thailand, including a cooking class, people they met, Bangkok, Vietnam, etc.
This sounds nice:
Due to the tsunami tourism is apparently down about 70% since last summer. As a result, the beautiful beaches are empty, the fancy hotel rooms are super cheap and the people really need tourists to come back and spend their cash. We spent two weeks at the beautiful Karon Beach Resort and couldn't have been more pleased. The beautifully appointed oceanfront rooms, the breakfast buffet and daily Thai massages on the beach can't be beat.
Ahh, I'm excited about Thailand... It's sad to hear they aren't recovering quickly, but we'll do our part I'm sure.
