Lately it's been seeming like things are flying by so fast that if you don't stop and document them, they just fly away. With this post, the doucmentation is going to have to be mostly pictures, as it represents a few days.  Enjoy...

Kamikochi Japan is a tiny village in the Alps with expensive lodging ($200 per night) and some of the best scenery in Japan.  Despite rain, we really enjoyed the natural beauty.

 Mt. Yakedake:

 The Azusa River:

From Kamikochi, we spent a couple of nights in Matsumoto, where it rained a little more.  This caption should read "Damn you rain!!!"

Alas, Matsumoto has a stunning castle:

We took a day trip to a town called Hotaka, where you can rent a bike...

 ...ride across picturesque rice patties...

To Japan's largest wasabi farm:

To end this session, we went to Himeji Castle, one of Japan's most famous sites, and a UNSECO World Heritage site.  We happened to arrive on a beautiful day that also corresponded with the colorful Matsuri Yatai Festival.

These guys were all wearing shoes "tabis" like this:

But we really came for the castle:

 And it's original architecture.

And views for miles...see the festival below?

And then we went to Osaka, where we'll be for a while as we explore Kyoto, Nara, etc.

Well, actually, the food ones as well--British Columbia has a big Japanese population.

Darren, are you suggesting a man-didn't-land-on-the-moon style conspiracy? ;-)

I just watched a show on the National Geographic Channel that goes to prove that we DID land on the moon.  They go through most of the conspiracy theories and show why we did actually land there.  Although some of their reasons weren't backed up very well, there was one thing that did prove (to me at least) there was a moon landing.  During one of the moon missions, the astronaunts set up a science experiment that reflected laser beams from Earth back to Earth.  It was to prove that mirrors could reflect a beam to the exact same spot of origination.  Well, in an observatory in Texas (or was it New Mexico), they occassionally (maybe a hundred times a year) shoot a laser beam to that spot on the moon and measure the time it takes to return.  If the moon landings did not occur, there wouldn't be a reflective mirror on the moon... and since there is a reflective mirror set up, I deduce that we did land on the moon.  Any questions?  (BTW, it's saved on Tivo if you two want to watch it)

YAH!!! I'm so glad you guys made it up to the Japan Alps. Not to mention, what a treat for me to be able to see photos in the summer. Jason and I just went there a few months ago and there was snow everywhere. All the greenery just looks wonderful!! I agreed with so many of your comments -- like of the garden in Kanazawa. It was so controlled and manipulated. Not what I expected, but still an interesting perspective in the Japanese mindet. Thank you guys, I think you're doing an awesome job with your website. Love seeing the pictures and reading your insights!! So are you templed out yet?? I know I was after 10 days travelling in the outskirts -- is it time for a break in Osaka or Tokyo??

Yeah, I think we're both getting shrined out.  Some of the gardens with the shires are amazing.  We're in Osaka now- using it as a base to head to Kyoto and Nara.
